School Introduction

Coastal Carolina Community Collegeis a public community college in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The institution enrolls approximately eight thousand students. It is also a miniature university of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Coastal Carolina Community College grew out of the need to provide higher education and training to the people of Onslow County, to improve their quality of life, to help them realize their dreams and to make this community a better place to live. As early as 1957, the State of North Carolina recognized the need to provide more postsecondary education and training for its residents. By 1962, the General Assembly approved the creation of 20 industrial education centers. The following year, the Onslow County Board of Education and the Superintendent of Public Schools, Mr. J. Paul Tyndall, asked the Onslow County Commissioners to purchase 40 acres of land on U.S. Highway 17 to establish an Industrial Education Center to serve as a satellite technical university for Lenoir County.
