Introduction

The National Institute of Transportation (NITU) is a public tertiary institution located along Mabibo Road in the Ubungo Light Industrial Area, west of the city of Dar es Salaam; just 1km from Morogoro Road.NIT was established in 1975 as the training arm of the then National Transport Corporation (NTC).NIT is responsible for enhancing the human resource capacity of the NTC subsidiaries in the areas of transport personnel and middle management. management personnel of NTC subsidiaries. These subsidiaries are: National Bus Services Limited (KAMATA), Usafiri Dallas Salaam Limited (UDA), Regional Transport Corporation (RETCO), among others.

The Institute is fully accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) to deliver Certificate, Diploma and Degree level Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) programs (National Technical Awards - NTA Level 4 to 8). It is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT International) to teach and examine CILT's International Introductory Certificate, International Certificate, General Certificate and Higher Diploma in Logistics and Transport programs. In addition to this, the Institute also offers MBA in Logistics and Transportation Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in collaboration with Open University of Tanzania (OUT) and International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Consultants (IPSCMC) respectively.

The Institute offers the following courses: Logistics and Transportation Management, Cargo Clearance and Forwarding, Procurement and Logistics Management, Automotive Engineering, Business Administration, Computer ICT, Mechanical Engineering, Aviation Studies and Human Resource Management.NIT also offers Post Graduate Diplomas in Air Transportation Management, Logistics and Transportation Management, Travel and Tourism, Shipping and Port Management, Procurement and Logistics Management, Railway Transportation Management, Transport Economics, Road Transportation Safety Management and Transportation Engineering Management. NIT also offers postgraduate diplomas in Air Transport Management, Logistics and Transportation Management, Travel and Tourism, Shipping and Port Management, Procurement and Logistics Management, Railway Transport Management, Transport Economics, Road Safety Management and Transport Engineering Management.
The Institute has highly skilled academic and administrative staff. It also has modern machinery and equipment for teaching, research and consultancy services. Such equipment as modern vehicle inspection machines located only at NIT (Tanzania).
