School Introduction

Heartland Community College has campuses in Normal, Loncoln and Pontiac, Illinois. Illinois is divided into community college districts. Students wishing to attend one of the Illinois community colleges will pay lower tuition if they attend a community college in their area of residence. Prior to 1991, the entire state of Illinois was covered with community college districts, but a portion of central Illinois was centered in Bloomington. Students living in this off-limits area were in the unique position of having the option of attending any of the community colleges in the four surrounding areas.That changed in 1990 when Heartland Community College was founded, with its first "campus" located in the Landmark Shopping Center in Normal. A second campus was opened in 1992 at Towanda Plaza in Bloomington.
